Planning a proposal or a ring gift? Here are a few simple ways to find the size – without ruining the surprise.
1. "Borrow" a ring she already wears
Carefully take a ring she wears on the right finger (for an engagement ring – usually the left ring finger) and measure the inner diameter in millimeters with a ruler. Then find the size in our ring size guide.
2. Trace the ring on paper
No ruler nearby? Place the ring on a sheet of paper and trace the inner circle with a pen, so you can measure it later.
3. Ask a close friend for help
A close friend or family member can "borrow" a ring to check, or even take her ring shopping "just for fun".
4. Compare it to your own finger
If you can slide her ring onto one of your fingers, mark how far it goes and measure your finger's circumference at that point with a strip of paper.
Helpful tips
- Between two sizes? Choose the larger one.
- For wide bands (over 6 mm), go up half a size.
- Measure at the end of the day – fingers are slightly larger in the evening.
- Open, adjustable rings are a great choice when you're not sure of the size.
